A project for the courtyard of a winery embraces the rural character and simplicity of the location, celebrating its traditions and connection to the land. Old wine barrels are repurposed as large planters, becoming symbols of continuity between past and present. American grapevines climb and cascade throughout the space, embodying the vibrant passage of the seasons. Buddlejas, and different varieties of hydrangeas bring texture and changing colors, while sculpted Phillyreas add structure with their rounded forms. Flowering species typical of the surrounding fields are introduced to weave the natural landscape back into the courtyard, creating a space that feels both cultivated and spontaneous.
